Michelle Castro Douglass, MSW

Michelle Castro Douglass is the Founder and Executive Director of Prom Plus NYC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational and cultural enrichment programs that empower young adults.

Inspired by her mother, a Licensed Therapist, Michelle developed a deep commitment to service at an early age, regularly assisting in preparing meals and donating clothing and toys to those in need. These formative experiences instilled in her a lifelong dedication to community engagement and youth development.

With over 15 years of experience in sales and marketing at Sports Illustrated, Vibe Magazine, and Latina, Michelle transitioned from the corporate sector in 2015 to establish Prom Plus NYC. Initially launched with a small group of students and donated formalwear, the organization has since evolved into a comprehensive program offering workshops in life skills, financial literacy, self-empowerment, and career readiness.

Recognizing the critical need for emotional resilience in today’s youth, Michelle has expanded her clinical expertise by integrating mindfulness and meditation into Prom Plus NYC’s workshop offerings. Understanding that self-regulation is essential for personal and academic success, she has made mindfulness practices a core component of the program, equipping students with the tools to manage stress, enhance focus, and cultivate emotional well-being.

Beyond her work in New York City, Michelle has been actively involved in global humanitarian efforts, including initiatives in Cuba and collaborations with government officials in the Philippines to restore essential food and medical services in communities impacted by Typhoon Odette.

Michelle’s unwavering commitment to education, equality, and youth empowerment continues to drive her mission. Through Prom Plus NYC, she is equipping the next generation with the tools and opportunities needed to succeed, ensuring that every young person has the foundation to thrive and achieve their full potential.
